Fayetteville Observer Shamed Into Responsible Behavior by Retired FPD Sgt.

Fayetteville, N.C. – A local retired Fayetteville police officer well known for taking on and outing government corruption has now brought about change to local Fayetteville’s local newspaper, the Fayetteville Observer.

Retired local law enforcement sergeant Jerry Schrecker, well known for forcing corrupt government actions into the sunshine such as the investigation of the corrupt Fayetteville Partnership in 1999, has now turned his efforts to holding the local newspaper, the Fayetteville Observer’s, feet to the fires of ethical journalistic behavior.

In a complaint filed with the owner of Fayetteville Observer, GateHouse Media, Schrecker described a lot of unethical and definitely non-journalistic behavior by employees of the Fayetteville Observer.

At issue in Schrecker’s complaint was attempts by the Fayetteville observer to avoid reporting on information, like the issue of Mitch Colvin’s criminal history, that is necessary for voters to make an informed decision in Fayetteville’s mayoral race.

An additional issue was Fayetteville Observer’s methodical manipulation of readers by deleting or filtering readers’ article comments if they didn’t support the Fayetteville Observer’s slanted liberal or Democrat political agenda. Especially those comments that contained links to other sites that provided photographic proof or official state records like court records.

Information like mayoral candidate’s Kirk deViere’s close association with alleged pedophile Mike Lallier who’s currently under charges for allegedly sexually abusing young boys.

Also information concerning mayoral candidate Mitch Colvin’s criminal history and unethical business dealings in which Mitch Colvin received costly fines as recent as August of 2017.

Kirk A. Davis, CEO GateHouse Media, and Robert Gruber, Publisher, received the complaint on or about October 24, 2017, 1:28 pm.

A mere day and a half after Kirk A. Davis, CEO GateHouse Media and Robert Gruber, Publisher, received the complaint from the post office the Fayetteville Observer quickly generated an article on Mitch Colvin’s criminal record and rushed it to print.

Quite obviously the Fayetteville Observer’s owners were not happy to receive a complaint about the Fayetteville Observer’s far left liberally slanted reporting and the impact that it is having on their sales in the Fayetteville market.

Just as obviously, even though correlation does not necessarily mean causation, Sgt. Schrecker’s complaint did have a direct impact on the Fayetteville Observer’s publishing the truth about mayoral candidate’s criminal history when it was quite obvious that they had hoped to avoid doing so altogether. Fayetteville Observer’s grumbling mutterings that “The Fayetteville Observer spent more than a week reviewing scores of criminal and civil court records…” simply doesn’t hold water after their quite obvious and transparent attempts to prevent you, the readers, from having access to the truth in the first place (See Complaint to GateHouse Media).

This means that the citizens have proof that they can bring about necessary change to the Fayetteville Observer making it a better newspaper that provides better service through GateHouse Media’s complaint process.

Everyone should take the time to make their complaints to Fayetteville Observer owners, GateHouse Media, about liberally slanted reporting and unethical comment deletion or filtering known to the people who are really in charge. They actually listen! Especially those who have dropped their subscriptions to the Fayetteville Observer over their unethical actions.

  • Way to get them. I’m so tired of the liberal bias in media now. Thank you!
